What is Motor Management Clinic?

This clinic is for neuro developmental disabilities providing a specialist Physiotherapy assessment, advice and intervention on issues regarding your child’s overall movement.

This may involve referrals to other services as appropriate, for example orthopaedician or peadiatrician

What will happen at first appointment?

At your first appointment, we will have a discussion about your child’s medical history, development, functional abilities and current therapy programmes.

We will also ask you about your concerns regarding your child’s movement and development.

We will then complete an assessment which will involve:

Observing your child’s movements and posture

Measuring your child’s joint ranges using CPIPS guidelines (lower and upper limbs)

Other functional assessments, as needed Following this assessment, we will discuss the findings and advise recommendations with you.

What should I bring?

Bring a pair of shorts so that a thorough assessment of the lower limbs can be completed. You should also bring a copy of any current or previous therapy programmes. If your child wears orthotics (insoles, AFOs, SMOs etc.) please bring these.  

What happens next?

We follow up with continuous interventions following findings to meet or manage ye child's needs . We might suggest or recommend opinions for referral to orthopaedics or peadiatrician with our findings for checking hips or spine .
